Apple gains mindshare among young in US

updated 07:30 am EDT, Thu September 4, 2003

Apple became one of the during the summer, as it became one of the top 5 brands for young people, according to Wired News. Apple was the most popular choice among respondents for the company they would most like to endorse if they were celebrity. Young users also named the iPod as one of the top 2 "cool new gadgets". They also were the most likely to name the iMac and iPod as "extremely" well designed products. "Apple appeals to young people because celebrities they perceive as cool use their products, like musicians, filmmakers and designers....Apple's slick advertising contributes to that image, as do its upscale retail stores."

The ladies flock to me like bees to honey when I have my Powerbook and/or iPod. Apple hardware always gets the chicks ;-)

What slick advertising?

Slick advertising? What slick advertising? You mean the iPod/VW and G5 spots that have been running for what seems like forever, which people tune out because they're stale? Ohhhhh. That is slick.

iPod the chick Magnet

I don't know about you guys but my iPod has actually gotten me a few phone numbers. It may not happen often but it does happen. I guess when you commute on the subway you look for the smallest things to get a conversation going. You might think it's weird but if you commute from jersey to NYC you would understand.

Hollywood people love mac

09/04, 09:18am reply

Hollywood people love macs.

I know an industry insider in hollywood and 10 of their 12 closest freinds are mac fanatics.

the other two are not fanatics and merely tolerate a QinTel on occasion.

10 out of 12 people!

many own 4 machines.

(many mac people own many macs, but you know what i mean)

LA area loves macs, san francisco loves macs, but the rustbelt of america is a mindless wasteland, except for small pockets in Ann Arbor michigan and other college towns.

I know at least three 12 years olds that have the guts to ask their parents for ipods last xmas, and i know 9 people that bought ipods and two of them are pc users.

so yeah.... ipod is very successful, though I prefer to wait for prices to drop one day.

It may be "cool" but I don't see any improvement on the 3-5% market share.

Mindshare

09/04, 10:07am reply

Mindshare is nothing but a buzzword. Sure all the college kids think Macs are cool, but they don't have any money to buy them. How about we increase CORPORATE mindshare. h***, my networking prof doesn't consider Mac OS X to be a viable NOS. This is where we need to grow, not on college campuses.
