    RE: Xserve

When Panther is out the door for a short bit and Pather Server 10.3 is ready, then we will see or hear of the new G5 Xserve with Server 10.3 etc, etc...

Maybe the G5's current version of OS X needs a tweak or 2, but they want to kill these bugs before the Server version is released etc.

Have patience,... we desire it and it shall come.

PS... a little insider birdie told me a few tidbits too, but hush hush... NDA type of stuff,... LOL

    G5 Gen. 1

That's why one should wait for the Gen. 2s to come out.

    Re: No Pro Speakers

Maybe it is because the G5 lacks that "special" audio jack...you know the one that's smaller than the standard stereo mini-jack.

    Rev. 1 non-issue

Geez, people. The current G5 rev. 1 "status" has nothing whatsoever to do with OS X server incompatibility. OS X server, I'd imagine, needs a software update much the way OS X client did.

It's entirely possible (as has happened in the past) that even the rev. 2 machines won't be compatible with OS X server upon introduction, and that a small software update will be required. Remember when the Quicksilvers were first intro'd? They were NOT available as a server. The servers Apple was selling were the older "Digital Audio" motherboard/case configurations, not Quicksilvers. I remember people bitching that the Dual 800MHz G4 wasn't available as a server right away. Only later, when OS X server was updated, were Quicksilver servers available.

I cannot see how this is a rev. 1 hardware issue. It's a software issue, plain and simple. Wait a minute or two and it will be updated, I have no doubt.

And the fact that there is no G5 Xserve has nothing to do with a "classic first rev Apple s**** up." Tell me how you plan to cram the G5's massive heatsinks into a 1U case like the current Xserves? Obviously they're coming, but the desktops were ready first. I still have yet to see the 1.42GHz G4 in an Xserve - so is that a 'classic third rev Apple s**** up?'

I'm not an Apple appologist, but boy, you people are harsh. No company can refresh it's entire product line in one fell swoop like you are wanting.

    hmm

so MS's proprietary format is bad and Apple's proprietary format (the c*** speaker) is good? I guess this proves them wrong...

    Lets first relax...

and let the over zelots buy these machines first. It's smart business to do so. I have the ability to buy at over 75% off the price but I'm thinking I will wait 'til sometime in 2004 to actually make the purchase. There's nothing more distressing than getting the latest and greatest piece of hardware only to have a better piece become available soon afterwards. However, I'm sure whatever version we end up getting, it's going to be a f****** Intel smashing screamer. It will literally bend the Intel chip over the nearest motherboard and butt f*** it till it leaks silicon from its seams. (Pardon my graphic description; I'm listening to Steely Dan as I write this)
