No, you don't.
There is no 1U with "a couple of 64bit Opterons" on the market.
Liar.
He called him liar.
OK, I admit it, I was talking out of my a**. I don't know about Opterons in 1U rack-mounts.
Just wanted to troll around a bit.
Sorry for being a nuisance and a liar.
It's unfortunate you don't have to pass a maturity test before being allowed to post messages on the web. Some of you people actually make freedom of speech look like a bad thing.
I thought it was funny. Everyone knows there's no 1U dual Opteron. If they don't, then they wouldn't get it anyway.
Where dat G5 Xserve?
From what I heard from an Apple Xserve tech/sales rep is that the delay of the g5 Xserve is the Server vesion of Panther. Only when they get it ready for an initial release, then we should hear about the g5 Xserve, which is RUMORED to be a couple of months away. This is info I got from a reliable source and of course, should be taken with a grain of salt.
As for a 32bit G4 Xserve being g**,... not,... first I have seen an Xserve G4 in action and am quite impressed by it's capabilities. I mean a G5 will be much better, but look at how older and semi current Apple hardware just keeps on going. For god sake, I had a PowerTower 180e as a heavy use web server and email server for years. When we had 1ghz g4 chips, it was still going strong and doing it's job with perfection. Second.... if the G4 Xserve came in anodized pink aluminum casing, then you could call it g**, but it isn't that fabulous, just cool industrial gray. LOL
Also,... I was at a large industrial firm recently visiting friends and managed to hub hub about the possibility of OSX getting into their IT department. Well,... they were opening a new division and wanted to cut costs and OS X will be deployed cause of the smaller amount of IT staff needed and cost of ownership and running. They are smart and we both agreed,... if it were a Mac only world,... so many techies would be out of a job, but then again... they could be helping to expand technology and innovate their skill set to keep employed and such.
Nuff said :)

Great publicity for Apple in the enterprise space and at the same time great opportunity for Apple to win more contracts in government accounts.
What a great start to the morning. Thanks!
Andy
did the US Navy choose Linux over OS X when they bought those xServes? Or heck, even Darwin?
Probably because the guy making the decision was a Linux guru that liked the Apple hardware.

WTF Pwned?
Only one problem. The XServe still has a g** 32bit G4 and my 1U has a couple of 64bit Opterons with integrated mem controllers running 64bit Linux beotch.
