    Bug fixes

Please, please let this fix the printing problems I've had where I get a non-PostScript Print dialog more often than not.

    Last Time

When MM rolled-out Studio MX last year, Freehand's ICON was updated....nothing else. Freehand MX did not appear until about 6 months later. I wouldn't count on this "update" amounting to much, if anything at all.

    And yet again...

Freehand 10 was completely worthless. Would not handle EPS files, PDF files, Fonts, Printing, etc at all effectively.

    Freehand MX is little better.

Unless they decide to miraculously go backwards to a carbonized version of Freehand 7 I wouldn't expect anything great with this update either. People in the print industry do not need WOW update features. They need a functioning tool that does what it's advertised to do.

    FreeHand

Freehand used to be, IMHO, the flagship Macromedia product. Now it seems relegated to a Flash companion. This program used to compete with Illustrator and in some respects surpassed it. I switched to AI and would like to return to Freehand but I have to agree Freehand 10 was worthless.

    bad fundamental change

In every version of Freehand up until MX you could take a group of objects and change the fill colour for all the objects in the group at once. In Freehand MX, if you group an object and you change its fill colour or line, it doesn't work; they can only be changed individually. This is so fundamental. Whatever the new "feature" is, it is too complicated and destroys 15 years of common sense.

    Holy c***!

An update is coming. So everyone quit your childish whining and complaining until it is released. You have no idea what's fixed, what isn't, what features will be there, so why complain now? Does is actually help your fragile little egos to put others down all the time?

    Pathetic.

But that goes agains Macromedia's entire design philosophy. Anyway, most print designers stopped caring about Freehand several years ago. It's a Flash helper app now.

    Letter from Macromedia

    All,

I can't comment on the future plans that we have for FreeHand. But I can mention that there will be a new version of FreeHand MX shipping in the Studio MX 2004 box.

This same upgrade will be available for FREE via a download from the Macromedia website in the near future.

Please stay tuned for more details about the location and details about this upgrade.

    Letter Above

The Product Team Liason didn't post that letter here. I recieved this yesterday afternoon and sent it to Macnn. Just didn't want anyone to get confused about the source of the information.
