Interesting though I don't fully agree with it. Explorer 5 was rather good under OS 9 but as far as saying it worked exactly like the Windows version ?

    Good Article

Though a PC mag primarily, Ars did an excellent job of comparing these browsers in qalitative and quantitative fashion.

    Con, Brushed Metal?

Um, isn't that more a personal perference issue? I don't understand how that is a Con. I personally like it and hope all apps go brushed metal, but I realize that that is my personal perference, why couldn't the author recognize that?

    Re: Good Article

Do they have a print magazine? I never got the impression from their website that they are primarily a PC Mag. They focus on technology news most of the time. Not on Intel or Windows. And the best indepth reviews of all versions of OS X and G4 and G5 processors, I've found on their web page.

    to that i'd add...

    All reviews:
--specify if they have an integrated email client
(=masssive bloat for most osx users)
    Safari:
-- the metal appearance is irrelevant
-- fix the cookie support problems
-- fix the window position problem
    -- no 'send page' command
    iCab
    -- use standard fwd/back keystrokes

    Send page command

In Safari, create a bookmark to to following:

    javascript:location.href='mailto:?SUBJECT='+document.title+'&BODY='+escape(location.href)

Call it "Email a link to this page" or something.

    The bottom line...

Find the one that you like, then use it. They all work, so who gives a s***.

    the real bottom line

None of them, IE5 included, will properly operate many industry specific websites where the site has to pull in data from an outside server to fulfill the conditions of a search.

    In my case, real estate.

Have to go with Virtual PC and Windows IE6.
I hate it. Have tested them all.

    Spoofing DOES NOT work.

And no, it won't do any good to complain to the webmaster about the "poor design" of the site. In this case the site developement was contracted to M_______t. Common in many industries that M_______t has targeted for market penetration. In this case, "proper design" means that the site can be only fully functional on
    a Windows computer running MSIE.

Is this an evil plot? Who knows, that sounds like herding cats, But there is motive, means, and opportunity. Means and opportunity are self-evident. Motive is that eventually more of us will have run Windows on something in order to get the proprietary data we need to work.

Unless all the Mac browser programmers can find a way to make the browsers read the M-------t data calls.

Web should be equally available on all platforms by law. It is not.

I will hold out as long as I can. Mac since 1988.
