today provided a preview of the user research report, "The Balance of Power," to be distributed at the Portable Power Conference & Expo, which takes place September 21-23. The report includes a number of interesting statistics collected from notebook users, including: more than 50% of the notebook users say they are already using a wireless network, and 65% of notebook users say that their notebooks operate on battery power one to three hours per day.
The study was conducted by Power Strategies, Inc. in coordination with Alpha Beta Planning and marketQuest. IDG says that the results will help device designers and strategic marketers map out power source and power management product strategies. Early findings of the study also show that 21% of notebook users purchase an extra battery with their notebook computer with men purchasing an additional battery nearly twice as often as women. The report also found that more than 48% of notebook/laptop users think that the batteries powering their most recently purchased devices are lasting longer.
The complete user research report will cover a variety of usage issues, including recharging regimes, power duty cycles, use of ancillary features and power management circuitry. The research results will be presented exclusively during a special presentation at Portable Power Conference & Expo on Monday, September 22, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. A complimentary copy of the complete report will be distributed to attendees who register for a full event pass by September 12, 2003.
