MacNN reader Don Kellogg provided an update on a new Apple retail presence in Kalamazoo, MI: "We currently have a Best Buy store; however, it is not one of the stores to recieve Apple products. We currently do not have any Apple dealers, since Apple pulled out of Sears and Circuit City. People have to drive to Grand Rapids which is about 30 minutes away to look at products. A local Camera Store by the name of Normans was approached by Apple to start caring the company's products. They have a tech in training right now and the store will start selling Apple hardware and software in the near future....Kalamazoo is a large college town, we have around five colleges in the city alone."

    GR Apple Store

Grand Rapids needs an Apple Store. For now, we have to drive to Chicago or Detroit. I would think the population in the area would be able to support a store.

    KZ Apple Store :)

Like I said my Name has 2 G's :), anyway they had talked about a store in GR. The new mall up there is owned by the same company that has all the Apple stores from what I heard.

    good choice

Norman Camera has a good rep for photo and video gear, both mail order and for retail. The store is a bit small (where will they squeeze in the Apple machines?) but it's still a good choice.

    Small Store

I know they closed the store on Sprinkle, I think they only have one store left. However my wife pointed out the fact they they are offering 2% off orders under Apple price. Not sure how they can do that.

    Nothing New

This is nothing new, Apple has been trying to bring on Photoshops and or Sound and Video shops to be VAR or small retailers. In my local town our Mac retailer use to supply MACS to all of the local Photo shops, the local Video shop, and the local Pro Audio shop. So far, Apple has convinced both the photo shop and the video shop to become their own retailer/VAR. And it's my understanding that Apple is working on the Pro Audio shops as well.
