New FireWire interface for tape drive

Ecrix Corp today announced a new FireWire (IEEE 1394) interface for its VXA-1 tape drive, which it says "is able to back up 33 GB of native data to a single-cartridge at 3 MBps (66 GB at 6 MBps with 2:1 compressible data)." The VXA-1 FireWire Kit, which is $1,200, includes the translucent external VXA-1 tape drive, Dantz Retrospect Backup Software 4.3, the FireWire cable, a 33/66 GB VXAtape V17 cartridge, cleaning cartridge, power cord (US and Canadian) and documentation.
