    Huh?

    What is cool about it?

After going over two years without a signifigant update to Office for the Mac, Microsoft is finally lowering the price to something less outrageous than it has been.

MS bought VPC from Connectix 6 months ago and apparently all that they have done with it so far is add Microsoft to the name.

What about these announcements is cool?

    Updates

The problem here with the student/teacher edition is that you cannot update it when new versions come out. At least this is what happens on the Windows versions.

Is there an upgrade path for current users? I only bought my copy of MS Office a couple of months ago!

    Big fat sorry!!

How about an announcement from Microsoft saying "we are terribly sorry for releasing the so-called Exchange compatible version of Entourage. We are going to be releasing a fully functional version that will mirror Outlook for Windows. Please forgive us for cheating Mac users everywhere."

That is what I am waiting for but I am certain that the temperature in h*** will dip below 32 degrees F before I hear it.

    Re: Updates

You are wrong. There is a difference between the pc version and the mac version of Office student edition. On the pc version you can not update to future version but this you can do with the mac version. The only slight cause for loss of sleep is that Microsoft has only confirmed one more version of office for the mac platform.

    Lame

Office 2003 is coming out for Windows, but all we get is bug-fixes and some lame half-assed features (Outlook so-called compatibility in Exchange, bunding VPC).

Now that the 5-year agreement with Apple expired, and the DOJ lawsuit is over, Microsoft is slowly moving to dropping all Mac development. Do you really think we'll see any more major updates to Office?

    YEAH!

Woohoo! Finally an affordable version of Office, and it comes with Virtual PC, AND I can use it until I graduate in a year or two! $150?! That's a STEAL compared to the previous prices!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Student/Teacher version doesn't come with VPC.
