gateway has great prices on the plasma televisions. I know several people who have bought them from gateway and love them.

what was gateway's name before?
Gateway 2000 was the original name. When 2000 came they didn't want to seem outdated once it became 2001, 2002, etc so they changed it to just Gateway and dumped their cow logo image. ...been all downhill since then pretty much.
...Gateway Computers. Whatever the case I think their biggest mistake was moving from Iowa to California. In their move to selling more than computers they're not alone. Dell is doing a similar thing and is even dropping the term Computer from their name. Computers are becoming like washing machines, microwaves, and tv's.
The more important story item is outsourcing of jobs. The good is cheaper products the bad is fewer jobs for Americans.
as long as the goods can be produced cheaper, then I'm all for it, I could care less about any unemployed people in the U.S.
Earthlink's deal is not Mac compatible, of course. Here's what they said when I went to the link.

If there was one PeeCee maker I felt sorry for, it's certainly Gateway. My wife went to school out in Iowa, where the founders lived and schooled. two humble guys with a hot start, but they have faded ever since their name change.
Oh well.
But switching over to a more 'boutique-like' electronics device company is not the way to go. If they had trouble competing with the likes of Sony, HP/Compaq and Apple before, then they now will have h*** on their hands.
*shrugs* Good luck, but Gateway needs much more than that.
