Apple expands retail presence in Australia

updated 01:05 am EDT, Fri August 1, 2003

Apple will begin department stores in Australia, according to ARN: " Apple computers are coming soon to a David Jones store near you. In fact, Sydneysiders have been able to buy a full range of Apple gear from the chain’s Sydney city store for several weeks. Apple’s resellers were informed of the move at its recent channel conference at Hamilton Island. The vendor had been keeping quiet about the move back into the department store market, as it was still in pilot phase, according to marketing manager, Arno Lenior."

    So...yay?

Well, I'm not an Australian, but I know that an increased retail presence will only help AAPL, so yay! I guess. Even though it doesn't affect me the same way that the Best Buy programme does.

    Go Apple!

    Re: resellers

Maybe you're right. Yet, I believe many Apple users are pro users. I guess they'll stick to their usual reseller. I also remain skeptical when PC vendors supposedly begin selling Macs. Salesmen usually don't know much about the Mac and will probably use them to lure in some customers, thanks to Apple's products design, only to tell them to buy some cheap PC they know. PC salesmen selling Macs are just a joke.

    maybe so

WHAT resellers? There were 4 here in Canberra, then Apple closed down their two shopping-centre AppleCenters' about a year ago. That leaves the only (Apple-run) AppleCenter in canberra obscurely located at the Australian National University campus... no wonder Apple has such a pathetic market share. Apple should have stuck it out and not pulled out of general retail... people just arn't AWARE of all these cool Apple products... if they were alongside the PC's at Domayne and Harvey Normal, Apple would get so much more exposure.

    But what about...?

Mac1 in Fyshwick, Approved Systems in Phillip and AGN in Braddon?

But in any case I think its great to have a major retailer selling Macs & Mac stuff again.

    Blah

They are not AppleCentres, they are resellers. At one stage Apple had 3 AppleCentres in the territory, now they are back to one. Great stuff.
