Uwe Gohlke Software has released , which offers data backup and archiving solution for HELIOS publishing servers as an HELIOS independant version. It brings HFS+ support for Mac OS X computers, barcode support in tape changers, faster backup and restore as well as software write-protection and recycling of tapes. The new script implementation allows to run customizable commands before and after backup and restore jobs. SCSI and FireWire tape changers and tape drives such as AIT, DLT, SLR and VXA as well as backup to hard drives are all supported.

Until end of this year, new licenses of ES-Backup also include a software update service agreement that entitles customers to receive all software updates free of charge for one year. The ES-Backup demo version includes backup and restore components, which may be used from the UNIX shell without having to buy the full product. This allows to carry out tape backups on Mac OS X as on any other UNIX system.
