CDBaby partners with Apple iTunes Music Store

updated 10:25 am EDT, Mon July 21, 2003

MacNN reader Andrew Mays notes that CDBaby has officially to distribute Indie music to online digital stores, such as Apple's iTunes Music Store, Listen.com, and others: "It costs $35 to join CDBaby, a one time fee of $40 dollars to sign up for electronic distribution, plus $20 for a UPC code which I needed anyway. This is huge for small labels like the one I'm running!"

    This is massive

Anyone who wants to put their music out in front of a large audience just had their dreams come true. Amazon.com has been allowing such access for a while but you had to pay for burning CD's and packaging artwork Etc..

    Outstanding.

This is a brilliant deal for independent artists, and really does set a new paradigm for the music industry.

    SUBMIT but no promise!

Hey guys. Derek from CD Baby here. Just wanted to make sure it's clear that we can SUBMIT your music FOR CONSIDERATION to Apple iTunes Music Store, but the final say is always up to them.

Just didn't want to make it seem like we're promising anyone that they *will* be there. But at least we can promise that we will submit it to them, by their guidelines, for their consderation.

Just a formality, perhaps. But just wanted to be clear. :-) Feel free to ask any questions at cdbaby@cdbaby.com.
