Volkswagen and Apple have partnered to provide 2003 New Beetle sedan buyers with a . Volkswagen and Apple have dubbed the new initiative "Pods Unite." The pairing begins today and will be featured prominently in a TV, local radio and newspaper, nationwide print, broadcast media and e-commerce campaign, through the end of September. Sleek iPod displays will also adorn Volkswagen dealer showrooms. Volkswagen's iPod connectivity kit completes the pairing, with the ability to create and remotely access a road-ready digital music library. Together, the estimated retail value of the iPod (15GB) and VW connectivity kit is about $600.

Cool, but sooooo Apple. Right up there with that completely useless $600 (or whatever it was) iPod jacket, which sold about 3 units (Steve, Steve's mother, and Steve's cat.) Never mind making a cheap 2-5 GB iPod people can actually afford, iPod would look kickass in a Beatle, so let's make people buy that!

this article is interesting -- there was word of apple bundling iPods with VW's when the iPod first came out... there was even talk of an in-dash cradle for the iPod... kinda like a jetta iPod edition much like the now-defunct(?) jetta Trek. i can't imagine VW not having an elegant solution for mounting the ipod in the car... anyone know how they plan on doing it?

Could be nifty

I'd love something like this for my Audi S4, and there's a good chance any connection kit for a VW would work in an Audi, too. I'd really like something better than a cell phone cradle for my iPod!

New Beetle is not a sedan

The New Beetle only has two doors, so it cannot be a sedan. It's a coupe or hatchback.

Why doesn't Apple release a 1 gig & 5 gig model so more people could afford to buy these things. $150 for a 5 gig, $99 for a 1 gig....
whatever I'm smoking works.

..to always love the underdog. I love Apples and VWs, both groups widely misunderstood by the public as underpowered and problematic.
Still the best buys for their money.

the jacket isnt made by apple. its made by burton. and, it probably sold to THIER parents...not steve's ;)
and, a sedan is defined only in part by the number of doors. that is, a sedan may have 2 or 4 doors, and must have a rear seat.
i have a '64 beetle and an old reel to reel, is there any cable i can buy?

VWs suck so badly.

Especially the 1.8 turbos. Ask any Audi A4, Jetta, Golf, blah blah blah owner (VW owns Audi). Quality control is a foreign concept to these cars.
