Apple today announced that the iPod, its popular portable digital music player, will be available in August at retail locations nationwide, as well as CircuitCity.com. Bose retail stores will carry the 15GB and 30GB iPod models, and Circuit City will offer all three iPod configurations -- 10GB, 15GB and 30GB. "Bose and Circuit City are great additions to a lineup of retailers that have helped get over one million iPods into customers' hands," said Tim Cook, Apple's executive vice president of Worldwide Sales and Operations.

    Good move!

Apple made a good move by selling one version of the iPod compatible with both Windows and Mac. It makes it easier for mass electronics retailers like Circuit City to sell the iPod (no need for Apple to force them to carry the Mac version), gets the iPod in front of Windows users who might never venture into an Apple Store, and even gives Mac users more places to buy the device.

I came in here to say exactly the same thing. : )

It always bothered me that the retailers wouldn't stock the higher-capacity Mac versions.

There's a Bose store right next door to the Apple Store.

    Here We Go Again

What is this, attempt number 331 for Circuit City to "get it?"

I hope this works (h***, even Dell can see the value in selling them), but the fundamental problem is that CC does not understand Apple or the iPod. To them it's just another (overpriced by their standards) MP3 player.

Circuit City may not have gotten it in the past, but the customer gets it now, as iPod sales figures shows. And that's hard even for Circuit City to ignore.
