The East Coast's annual Mac developer summer trade show kicked-off today under a new name, but attendees ," according to The San Francisco Chronicle. The five-day Macworld Creative Pro Conference and Expo -- possibly the last Macworld to be held in New York City -- might not draw even half as many attendees and exhibitors as last year's, according to editor Benny Evangelista. "[It] surely will not come close to the nearly 90,000 attendees at the annual Macworld Expo in San Francisco in January," Evangelista says. Apple's Chief Executive Steve Jobs isn't scheduled to deliver a keynote address or introduce new products as he has in past years.

    is this a suprise?

You make a show for the niche market and a niche audience shows up. I don't see why they are comparing it to previous years.

I thought it was funny that Microsoft was showing. What are they going to demo to creative people, PowerPoint?

Pretty lame that Macromedia is a no show. I would have expected adobe to drop out before them. Discreet not showing is also a dissapointment.

Strangely enough, I was unable to attend the show because I'm working on a coporate video project. A project that could benefit from my attendance.

    You lose!

While MacWorld NY conference may not be the "must-buy" it was in years past, it *is* still the first place since the WWDC that you can get your hands on a G5 to try out.

Believe me if I had been going anywhere near New York this week, I would have made sure to buy a $10 exhibit hall pass.*

*I think that's the price. Actually it's free for most MUG members, so it's an even better deal.

If anyone reading this DID go to the show and DID play with the G5's, throw us a frickin' bone willya? How was it??

    I'm going...

as I have for the past 5 years, and most of my friends in the mac community that attended in the past will be there as well, including international attendees. I'll post some comments about the quality of vendor presentations and quantity of attendees later in the week
