GenieSoft is now shipping , its music notation software for professional musicians and composers. Users can quickly enter notes on-screen with your mouse or computer keyboard, or record a MIDI performance for instant viewing. Version 3 includes the same features set as the PC version, support for Encore and MusicTime files, Guitar Frames, a new "Score" Setup dialog, and playback of hairpins and articulations as well as many other features. The upgrade from version 3 is $50, while the upgrade from versions 1 and 2 is $80. The full version is $350. MacNN reader John Rethorst provided a some thoughts on the application.
"Overture IMO has the best interface of any notation program I've used, with
a quality of printed output equalled only by Nightingale. I agree with the
reviewer in Electronic Musician who said, discussing three or four of these
programs, that he could do anything about twice as fast in Overture as in
any other. I understand it has the best MIDI support of any notation
program - "chunks of Opcode's Vision", as Alan Belkin said on Usenet.
Offhand, I don't see anything that Sibelius will do that Overture won't. It
has especially nice guitar support, and is not copy protected. The
publisher says it will be able to import Finale files by the end of this
year."
