    DVD-RAM

Sounds like I might finally get use of the DVD-RAM drive in my dual 500MHz G4. I hadn't been able to use it at all in Mac OS X.

Anybody know of a way to write to DVD-RAM from the Finder, as we could do in Mac OS 9?

    too bad, I'm sticking to

Carbon Copy Cloner. Apple had their chance. If they make a decent backup software that can backup to hard drives maybe I'll renew my dotMac membership.

    Back to Version 1.2.1

I'm permanently going to be using version 1.2.1 of Backup - why Apple pulled the 3rd party support for external burners is a mystery to me (and I'm sure to others)

BOO APPLE!! Bad Form!! Points off!!!

    iPod support?

i'm just amazed that iPod compatibilty is *still* missing from Backup.. it makes perfect sense to me for this to be there. I am happy with my .Mac account, but iPod support really should've been included in the initial 1.0 release

*yes, i've used the 'feedback' option in Backup to notify Apple of this omission*

ditto the other poster's comment about 'carbon copy cloner'.. i'm using right now to backup my /User directory (2.1GB) to my iPod. Excellent bit of software..

    DVD-RAM always worked...

DVD-RAM has always worked fine for me for HFS+ read/write capability since OS X.1. I don't use Backup however.

I have tried two DVD-RAM drives. Both are after market drives, and are in a noname Firewire enclosure.

    ditto

I've been using my DVD-RAM drive since 10.1. (also using a Dual 500)

The nice thing, unlike OS9 you can keep doing things while the drive backs up your files.

    DVD-RAM

Thanks for the comments on DVD-RAM. Searching the technotes, it says OS X cannot write to UDF. Perhaps that's how my disks were formatted. I'll take a look when I get home.

    DVD-RAM Works for Finder.

My DVD-RAM has always worked for Finder copies in Mac OS X, but has never worked with BackUp, when it seems to me that it makes perfect sense for it to do so.

Same for the iPod. I've bought all these things from Apple, but can't use them. This latest version has also stopped support for my LaCie CD-RW external drive too

    Boooo Apple!!!
