WiebeTech ships 7200 rpm portable drive

WiebeTech today announced a 7200RPM version of its pocket drives, which offer a 30% performance improvement over other drives in the line, according to the company: "Using Hitachi's latest notebook drive, this new configuration produces performance benchmarks that are directly comparable to desktop drives. First benchmarking is producing read and write benchmarks of 34MB and 30.5MB/sec., respectively." The new MicroGB+ model has a capacity of 60GB and is is available in a FireWire-only version (MicroGB+, $470) or a version supporting FireWire and USB2 (MicroGB+Combo, $500). It will ship starting the week of July 7.
