America's Army coming to Mac OS this month

is coming to the Mac later this month. Rated T for Teen, the game consists of "two interlaced game experiences that highlight the role of various types of units within the Army and the development of the Soldiers that comprise these units. As with Soldiers in the U.S. Army, game players are bound by the laws of land warfare, Army values and realistic rules of engagement as they navigate challenges in teamwork-based multiplayer force versus force operations." Mac gamers will be able to join the ranks of over 1.7 million registered players of America's Army. It will be available later this month.

Army Recruitment Tool

People should be aware that this "video game" is actually a recruitment tool for the U.S. Army. If that's what you're interested in, go check it out.

If using military force and killing "the enemy" to solve the world's problems is not your cup of tea, find a more entertaining game. Like Everquest, for example.

I figured people would reply like this..... so based on your theory of how things work, people that buy "Grand Theft Auto" are being trained how to steal cars and use/kill hookers? Personally I would rather have my kids playing America's Army than Grand Theft Auto...
I went through basic training, and I am not some kind of killing machine. More kids out there need to have some kind of discipline, instead of living with mom and dad at age 32, playing XBOX until 3 AM, and lucky if they even have a job. Excuse the government for taking a shot for trying to give these slackers another option.

Get off it folks. This game is GREAT!! It may be a "recruiting tool" but the game doesn't preach a damn thing. Yeah, you do end up learning a bit more about how the army operates but why is that a bad thing? I've played this game for almost a year and I'm not one step closer to fighting or condoning ANY of Bush Jr.'s wars. I hope you're all smart enough people to be able to enjoy this wonderful FREE > Mac !!

game and not immediately stumble like zombies to your local recruiting office. Give this game a chance. I was skeptical at first but now it's basically the only game I play on my PC...and now I can play on my Mac!! Just try and leave the politics out of it. This was developed by a lot of people in the army that really love games. Remember, not everyone in the army are middle aged men with cigars and bad attitudes. The army is comprised mostly of young people who grew up with video games. Give it chance, I guarantee you�ll enjoy it. (and I bet you�ll still be a civilian in the mourning)

My 2 cents....

It is funny that those people that don't like our Army sure don't seem to mind our dollars. America has sacrificed many people to help other countries. We are not perfect. But we don't shy from responsibiity.

It is a difficult job of knowing when to use and not to use military force. Choosing to use it is never a desired choice. But often choosing not to use military force can lead to even greater problems. That is what happened in WWII.

Ah, heck. Maybe we should consider just picking up our armies and bringing them all home. Let the world see how they do without the good ol' US of A to kick around.

Do you really think that violence will go away? That the wars will stop? If you do, then you really should be playing video games and living in a virtual world....or maybe you already are and that is why you don't know what reality is.

i write games for a living - but I'm pretty horrified about this. Not because of the game itself, or any objection to fantasy killing, but because of the growing acceptance of killing as a way of imposing the US way of life on the rest of the world. Games like this seem to suggest a totally uncritical acceptance of the current US administration's appalling policies by the vast majority of the population - a depressing and baffling situation for the rest of the world.

Anyway I suppose everyone agree that gettint rid of saddam was a good thing, but please admin that the reason to go there was first not because he was bad (they didn't carre before, why now) , not because of wmd (everyone know that there was no threat) ... but for others reasons (pick your fav)

If you don't like the idea, don't play ... It's just as simple as reading information papers on army engagement.

It's a Game.

It's a Game and if a game makes you go out and kill then you needed some help before anyway. I supported George Bush's actions against Iraq and all of his foreign policy. We have been on the side lines for too long as the world self-destructs. The world is a dangerous place. I've lived over seas and it is not like here at all. Even in a country like Japan they also have home grown terrorist, you just don't hear about them very often or the people they kill or hurt. In Africa is a perfect example. The africans have been killing each other at various points in their history for centuries. And it's getting worse. With each tribal war claiming up to 500 thousand people dead at a time. This is insanity. I don't care what past they have there is no excuse for it, but it continues unabated none the less. We can't enter in to every conflict, but we can try to help, even if it's facilitated talks like what is going on in Israel right now. If we close your eyes, hold our ears shut and say "la la la la" real loud, some day, you may have a gun pointed at your head and he'll have an accent that you'll recognize from CNN.

First off, yes this is only a game. Problem is, shouldn't we be fantasizing about a more positive future, in addition to fantasizing about blowing every thing and everybody to bits? People with intelligence and discernment know that there are many alternatives to violence for problem solving and conflict resolution. We were not in danger from Iraq or Saddam, and we didn't rid the world of danger by going into Afghanistan. Both wars got us access to lots of oil though.

The U.S. has rarely in it's history used it's military might for altuistic purposes. The more common reasons are political or economic dominance, with a few noteable exceptions, WWII being one, but remember, Wall Street was heavily invested in n*** Germany and Hitler before we were begged to get into the war by England, which we did begrudgingly. It wasn't until Pearl Harbor that we got in, so I wouldn't say we did it out of the goodness of our hearts.

I hold nothing against most people in the military. Many entered those organizations either to better their own lives or to serve their country or both. Problem is, soldiers don't make foreign policy or choose military targets. Generals, politicians and their Corporate benefactors make those decisions, and they are rarely motivated by a desire for freedom, democracy, justice or even safety.

Get real people, don't believe what the television tells you. Learn some history before you regurgitate the propaganda you've been fed.

game ideas

well, i would like to see a game like this - targeted at journalists;
Starting out as a student - with all the glorious words of "the thruth is everything" and whatever the students learn. Then entering the "real world" situations. Getting a job...your first own research (how to) writing and spelling properly etc. Fact checking would be a major part in this part of "the game". Then you make career. You get to play a major role at a major NewsChannel or -a big newspaper, whatever. You learn how the hierarchy of a team as well as a studio/corp. works. You learn about the "art of twist&color" ie - biased work without looking biased. Left-,Liberal and Righwing style and their different ideologies.
And in the last part of the game your struggle will be - surviving in an environment where the truth is only been printed if it serves your countries ideologies.

-- Now, even tho i just made this up as a rough...you get what it could be like if done properly. Thing is, the kids would learn all these kindsa obstacles and skills on their way thru the game. Spelling, research, moral (what is moral anyway?), history, politics, teamwork etc.
And...noOne gets killed...plus, next time they switch on the helluvision they might as well start to re-consider the meaning of words like "union-wide poll", "fact is...", "Total coverage from..." etc.

Of course, noOne would really "gain" by such agame. Who wants a bunch of educated people? After all...what we need is "teamwork" ie. when some high profile person claims "there's danger out there y'all !" - they're not supposed to question this "fact", right ?

All in all, what frightens me more than the american army - is the american way of "research & facts"...the mass media. Its a total disgrace.
However, this "educational game" suits the "pax americana" -ideology perfectly. And...dont know in what direction to vomit.

How about PeaceCraft III where the humans, orcs, and undead get together for a group hug and sing kumbaya. Then again they could come out with Grand Reparations III where you return stolen autos, turn hookers into honest law abiding citizens, and help little old ladies across the street. Finally they could come out with Duke Love-em-all III where you go around with love beads, flowers, and give the enemy the peace sign. The main character would even save the whales in the process. Now those games would be really popular! ;-)
