    What about 802.11b?

I can't use Airport Extreme because Apple didn't see fit to include PCMCIA cards. I don't care if I don't get the full speed if I can't use WPA to secure my home network. It's the security I want. And I haven't seen any thirdparty vendors stepping in to make a g compatible card that goes INSIDE the computer, making use of the internal antennae, which will work just fine since b and g use the same frequency. No, they all have to have an ugly (and in the way) antenna sticking out the side of the computer.

    It's a no-brainer to release such a card. C'mon, vendors, get cracking.

    You can use Airport Extre

The new Airport software just released lets you use many third party 802.11g Cardbus cards in your laptop. As such - you CAN.

still can't believe apple's making us shell out another $100 a year later. As much as I like a full developed OS...$100?!?!?!?

They don't make you shell out money for the next OS release, you make yourself do that. You can stay on Jaguar, etc. if it has the features you want.

I personally will be buying Panther as soon as it is out because of the additional features that it will have. The cost seems well worth it to _me_.

Apple's internal antenna are weak. Sure it is nice to have everything inside but if you want that, buy a new machine.
A third party cardbus card with 11g support is a better deal. You will get better range than with the internal Apple antenna and it is more inexpensive.
better performance + less money = better deal

No, you can't. Not if you want to make use of the internal antennas in your computer. I'm talking about a card that goes UNDER THE KEYBOARD, not into the PC Card slot. I'll be amazed if you can show me one. I don't want an external antenna.
