KB roundup: Apple continues to post information about its latest Safari 1.0 release, including noting that necessary for capturing video with iMovie, iSight's microphone can be used to capture audio in the Audio pane of iMovie.

MacNN readers also note that Apple has pulled Backup 1.2.2 and replaced it with Backup 1.2.1. Although Apple did not offer any details, a MacNN reader offers a possible explanation: "Apple probably pulled the 1.2.2 version because it didn't work with external CD burners even if you have a paid .Mac account, as I do. You must remove the com.apple.backup.plist file from the system before re-installing Backup 1.2.1 - you will get a warning if you try to install 1.2.1 over 1.2.2. Going back to 1.2.1 resolves the external burning issue."

    yet another reason to...

...stick with 9 - through printing h*** & back today because of X drivers & other bugs...

...promise is great but if you need to get things done... 9 is 'finished', is faster & it 'works'...!

    bugs

Don't they test this stuff out? Beta is better than the first official release! From security to this, they are slowly but surely becoming more like Microsoft!

    Backup pulled - reason?

Apple probably pulled the 1.2.2 version because it didn't work with external CD burners even if you have a paid .Mac account, as I do.

You must remove the com.apple.backup.plist file from the system BEFORE re-installing Backup 1.2.1 - you will get a warning if you try to install 1.2.1 over 1.2.2. Going back to 1.2.1 resolves the external burning issue.

    Re: That's right...

...you put in an extra "the" there, kid.

    OS 9 IS s***

Hope you like the Mac you have now, 'cause if you want anything with a G5 you're screwed.

    backup revert

I had to remove both the com.apple.backup.plist from ~/library/preferences and the receipt for backup from /library/receipts before I could revert.

    IE & Camino Are Better

This is the reason why I prefer using IE and Camino still. IE may be slower but you know that the page will render correctly and it will perform solidly. Second to IE is Camino. I truly believe that Camino is faster than Safari and it doesn't have the bugs that Safari has. Safari is NOT finished. The other thing that's nice about IE is the ability to turn off quartz text smoothing under Interface Extras -- pages are a LOT clearer and crisper.

    Some thoughts

OS 9 was fine in it's time but some of us are ready for new challenges. If you wish to stick with 9 by all means do so and more power to ya.

As for the problem with Backup at least they took down the version that was causing problems. Everyone makes mistakes.

Internet Explorer and Camino are just fine but so is Safari. I have several browsers myself. I hope we always have choice when it comes to browsers.

    Installer problem

A response buried in the Backup support forum over on the .Mac web site claimed that 1.2.2 was pulled because of an installer problem - it sometimes doesn't pick up all the selections from the previous version, so if you don't notice that this has happened, some stuff quits getting backed up.

Not a word said about it not working with external burners.

    Video Capture

You can use programs like BTV Pro to capture video from iSight. Worked great.
