3Com, Belkin ship 802.11g compliant devices

has unveiled its new family of fully complaint 802.11g wireless offerings at CeBIT America. "The 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g solution addresses two major issues with existing wireless product offerings: speed and security...3Com is able to offer a competitively priced solution with 54 Mbps data rate and 256-bit security encryption at a distance of over 300 feet from the access point to PC card."
3Com's new OfficeConnect Wireless 11g solution is among the first wireless products to ship with full IEEE 802.11g standardization and new Wi-Fi Protection Access (WPA) security.
- The 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point ($125), due in July, can be configured as a client bridge or an access point and provides Clear Channel Select and easy set up of wireless profiles;
- the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Gateway ($135), also due in July, adds wired security including: stateful packet inspection firewall, hacker pattern detection, VPN pass through, NAT and URL filtering; and
- the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g PC Card ($80), includes the Wireless Card Manager, enabling network administrators to perform wireless profiles and site scan/browse techniques. It is due later this month
Belkin also recently announced full compliance with the newly ratified IEEE 802.11g specification for its entire 54g wireless networking line. The Belkin 54g line is currently shipping with "all necessary features to comply with the specification ratified by the IEEE committee and will interoperate with other 802.11g- or 802.11b-compliant products." The company says that all Belkin 54g products shipped prior to the ratification are immediately upgradeable to meet the fully ratified 802.11g specification via drivers that are available as free downloads.
