Apple plans to discuss how it will , a rapid chip-to-chip communications technology, into future computers later this month at its developer conference (WWDC), according to c|net: "[it] will use HyperTransport as a high-speed link between the two processors that make up the chipset in new desktop Macintoshes, sources said....Apple is one of the founding members of the HyperTransport consortium of companies backing the standard, which includes Advanced Micro Devices, Cisco Systems and Sun Microsystems."

    Just as I have said...

there will be no 970s at WWDC (no intro at least)...

    or...

This could simply verify the introduction....

Steve will talk about how Hypertransport will work and then you hear, "Oh, and one more thing." Here are the computers we are using it in.

    yeah right

Are you saying that the 970 will _not_ benefit from Hypertransport? We'll be seeing 970 machines (I sure will) at the Stevenote(tm)

    See, but selling

They'll be seen, but they won't go on sale or anything. Just two months ago, everyone was waiting for September for these things. Now, everyone is like "By the 24th, I'm going to have one on my desk!".

Personally, I think we're in for an even bigger supply. Has anyone noticed how the 970 buzz has taken over the boards and rumor sites. No one is talkihng about anything else. No more Motorola rumblings and grumblings. Which gives Apple the complete surprise ability to show up with Motorola's new chip, the PPC 7557a, running at a hot 1.44GHz! I'm telling you, this is going to be great. The crowds are going to be speechless....

    interesting...

    ...from the article:

"The inclusion of the communication standard is one of a number of announcements expected in Apple's new desktops, which will likely be unveiled at the company's Worldwide Developer Conference..."

So c/net is expecting new desktops as well. They probably have no more information than anyone else, but it's interesting that they expect new hardware at a developer's conference. We'll see shortly, I guess...

    Learn from history

Let's not get our hopes up as we have so many times in the past. It will only lead to disapointment.

I too want to believe that Apple will have killer new hardware to intro at WWDC...but try and maintain a conservative outlook, you'll not have as much to complain about lest the new iron be delayed.

AMD also features hypertransport in the AMD64 motherboards. Cool!

    hype

I'm hoping for a killer SteveNote. However, we've all been burned before. Leading up to MWSF when the flat panel iMacs were introduced, and the rumors were hyped by Apple as well, the reality IMHO didn't match the hype. I wonder if Apple has been smart not to do this again. Perhaps they realize they can't outstrip the hopes and imagination of its hardcore fans (like me!)

Well, they're probably expecting new desktops only because everyone else is saying so also. I mean, they say 'expected', and, technically, the only thing announced and expected is the Panther preview.

    logic

This news says nothing either YES or NO about new machines at WWDC using PPC 970 chips. Apple won'ttalke about the chips before they are announced or ship, so this notice about a Hypertransport session of course is going to talk about future machines. June 23 is in the future. You cannot read anything in to this. (However, if I were to read something in to it, this would SUPPORT the notion of new Hypertransport 970 machines at WWDC since it doesn't make a lot of sense to talk about it when you don't have the machines at least announced)
