Mac shareware developer Chris Smolinski (of ) notes that "Kagi has announced that, effective July 1, 2003, they will begin charging VAT on sales to customers in the EU. Therefore, I'd like to suggest that any users in the EU (whether of our products or someone else's) who are planning on registering (buying) a program through Kagi, do so before July 1, and save between 15-25%."

    No savings

Just to note, there's no savings here in many cases because VAT registered businesses just claim the VAT back. Those not registered should have been declaring the import and paying VAT anyway.

    No VAT...

There should not be VAT on virtual products and downloads :(

I won't order sharewares from Kagi if they add the VAT, that's too expensive (20% more), it will be better to buy on an european web site or Kagi like web site...

    This is wrong!!!

The internet is about freedom, not about taxing people over purchases. All purchases over the net should be tax-free!! I read that in a book about the guy who invented the Web. He said that one of the main reaons they created this 'world wide web' was so people could buy stuff from around the world without having to pay lousy state, local, or federal sales taxes, not to mention VATs! (The other reasons, of course, was to download p***, sell the c*** in your basement at virtual auction houses, downloading more p***, come up with a way for poor and desparate former Nigerian politcal officers to keep the new ruling government from stealing money that rightfully belongs to the Nigerian people, watching p*** movies, download music for free to stick it to the evil RIAA [they were so far ahead of their time on this one, most people didn't realize the RIAA was evil until they tried to stop Napster], and, of course, download p***).
