Thomas Johnson noted the irony of NBCi.com's latest television commercial:

"During Dateline Sunday night 1/7/01, NBC ran a commercial for their service NBCi.com. During that commercial they show a software program called "Quickclick". In the commercial they show an iBook and a Powerbook running the software. However, when you go to the site it tells you that it only runs on Microsoft Operating Systems."

    Awesome

Why doesn't my iBook work like that? A very well made commercial with some pretty cool effects. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to leave my iBook to clean MY room... by hand...

    oops

Well, that last comment was supposed to be about the other commercial story. I guess I clicked the wrong link... sorry. (By the way, this one was interesting too).

    hmmm...

well of course they wouldn't want an *ugly* computer in their ad. I wonder if their is an email address so we can tell them how stupid they are for doing something like that.

    Trade Descriptions

Don't you have any sort of Trade Descriptions/Advertising laws in the US. If the product is advertised as a Mac product, and isn't, they should have to pay up for false advertising :)

    clearly a violation...

with out having seen the commercial, i may be mistaken (could some body record it?)

but if the macnn description is correct it would clearly be a break of advertising rules in my country!

    I say sue!

    NBC sucks

NBC has gotten arrogant since their ratings tend to top others...have you seen the format for the Saturday Night Movie? Some bozo makes editorial comments at each commercial break. Now they advertise an site feature on Macs when it actually won’t work on one.

Letterman had the right idea years ago. Leave them, sue them, and speak out against them!

    Typical Media

Was the computer in the add running the MacOS or Windows? It's typical to see ads of PCs running the MacOS, but I've never seen it in a commercial. Obviously, someone didn't do their homework!

    Perhaps...

They covered the Apple logo as they do in many commercials so you can obviously tell it's a powerbook or ibook but since the logo is covered, you're not showing Apple's logo without it's permission?

    In the works

The advertisement I saw did not show any Macs. However, I e-mailed NBCi from their web site and received a response indicating that they were currently developing a Mac version of the technology. I guess we have to stay tuned...
