No iPods for some launch festivities

updated 05:25 pm EDT, Fri May 2, 2003

An Apple specialist alerted us to delivery problems of iPods to some reseller locations, leaving some resellers without the devices for planned product launch festivities: "So, as I speak with resellers around our region, we are all left holding an empty bag with customers and clientele showing up within the next hour expecting an unveiling party for the new iTunes and iPod."

"I want to alert you to a situation that has ballooned in the past several hours in regards to Apple Specialists and other dealers in the Apple arena. On Monday as we all know, Apple brought out the new iPods with iTunes 4. For obvious reasons, Apple did not alert its resellers until the fact. They also announced that they would be having parties at the reseller's locations on Friday to showcase the new iPod to the world. Upon those announcements, Apple gave the resellers, Specialists in particular, a one time chance to have enough iPods to look good for those parties that Apple spoke of. Well, to make a long story short, Apple took orders for a ton of iPods for more Specialists than not and promised delivery for Friday. Considering it is Friday and most of us have had to first of all throw together events so not to look bad next to Apple's Store events, we still do not have a single iPod to even show tonight. But, the Retail stores do. So, as I speak with resellers around our region, we are all left holding an empty bag with customers and clientele showing up within the next hour expecting an unveiling party for the new iTunes and iPod."

    Smells like FUD

Who's the anonymous "reseller"/"specialist"? Why do you post a completely unverifiable story that does nothing more than raise people's ire?

My local specialists are stocked up, and I have TWO apple stores within a few miles of each other. (Minneapolis, MN)

    I hate smelly FUD.

    another reseller story

why not post the name of the reseller. That way, readers in the area could go and verify that they were having an event and that they were indeed without iPods. Otherwise, its all just unverified garbage.

    what I don't get

so your store planned an unveiling party before you had the goods? That woudl be like tellign everyone "Ok, I am havign the best brithday party ever with clowns, a jump house, and a giant cake". then realizing you didn't have those thing, and you had a few days to try and secure some. Why say you are having this party then? If Apple wants to throw parties at their stores, everyone else doesn't have to follow suit. Just because Good Guys is having a Grand opening party, doesn't mean Best Buy, Circuit city, etc all need to throw parties as well.
