Correction for the author of the piece: you can purchase multiple songs. Just go into your iTunes preferences and select the shopping cart option. That will allow you to purchase multiple songs in one session.
no different than losing the physical cd or any other piece of property.
from the iTunes store.

I'm not sure if this is too off topic, but I can't seem to enter my credit card info for the itunes store. I log in with my .mac id, get to step 3 (enter cc info), and it says, "An Error Occured - The music store could not process your request, please try again later."
Dude, how can I use this great new store if it won't take my payment info!!??!!?!
Of course I've double-checked all my data a million times, even had a second pair of eyes do my login/cc info on my machine.... same issue.
I'm wondering if it's my software, my account, my credit card info....???? I can't figure it out. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
to the fellow with the credit card issue, the fix is to go to apple's website and log into your apple id account, add your credit card there then log back into the itunes music store. this info comes via the discussion at slashdot.
I wish they'd get all my favorite small labels on here, too ... Hush Records, Righteous Babe, Fugazi's own ...
I also can't wait for them to start putting up the back catalog of stuff that's been out of print for years -- I want Seals and Croft's "Diamond Girl" album, and to dig around in '20s through '50s country and folk. They could sell that stuff for a quarter a song, probably. What about all those Appalachian recordings from the Library of Congress? Some nominal download fee for stuff in the public domain already would be incredible!
The only thing I fear is that a few years down the line, Apple will start applying pressure to the content providers here like they do to their retail sales partners ... and then the thing goes kablooey and no more cool searchable, decently priced music. :(
One feature I'd love to have would be the ability to sync all my purchases to each of my registered computers. Right now, I've already bought about $45 worth of music, but some is on my Mac at work and some at home. Moving the files around by hand is so ... twentieth century.
I don't know about you guys, but I love this! :)
i had the same problem. the fix noted above *may* work. but, first try logging in with your full email address...not just the id (the part before the @mac.com)
i found that i needed the whole address or i got the same error.
Thanks for your various input... I'll be trying the apple id log-in and the full .mac address when I get home tonight.
Thanks again,
-the credit card issue guy
Jason's got some great ideas here. Too bad he's busily critiquing someone else's work, instead of putting his talents toward updating AudioFile for his faithful followers. Every time he gets publicity for the 37 signals crew, I'm compelled to remind him there are plenty of people willing to pay good money to keep track of ALL their music. If only he weren't so darn busy, we might end up with a more comprehensive digital hub. Oh, and while you're at it, could you do something like an iTunes for typefaces?

Music Loss
I would like to see a system that keeps a record of all the music you have purchased. What if you don't have a dvd burner and you have not backed up all your music, and then your hard drive crashes. You've lost music you have paid for. I would like to see a system that lets you redownload music you have already paid for in case of a system crash.
