Did I miss something? I thought this was MaccNN not ESPN. How about a discussion of Xserves? Like, has anyone else experienced excellent ROI or has, as one previous annonymous poster stated, the Xserve been a flop?

Hahahahahaha. That's funny. First off, I'll take soccor players over NBA players, and give me cyclists over them both (don't tell me about athletes, Lance Armstrong has to pedal for 8 freakin' hours. Uphill!)

As for basketball being mental, that's really funny. There's a lot more mental in baseball then in basketball. All the pro players care about is slamdunking. All the fans care about? The same. Ever wonder why all the highlight tapes of the games are of 'exciting' slam dunks (although they all look the same, boring, to me). What thinking is there during the average NBA game? Should we foul now that we're down by 10? Hey, should we call a timeout? The substitutions are as bad as football (american style), which indicates to me there's too many players in the game who don't have a complete game, and there's too much 'thinking' by the coaches.

I really wish all you sports fanatics would shut up and keep this thread on topic! Wanna know what I think about sports!? They all suck! Why? Here's the sad reality- Sports athletes, who essentially play GAMES, get paid MILLIONS of dollars every year to run around on a field, or court, or whatever, to either hit, throw, kick or shoot a ball, or maybe whack a rubber puck with their sticks, and all the while people like teachers, who work hard to educate our youth, our very FUTURE generations of leaders, get paid barely enough to keep a decent apartment or house and support themselves. And this all happens because people like all of you continue to spend your hard earned money on these athletes and the games they play, so it rakes in tons of money. And to make it worse, many of these game-players are freakin' greedy, and want more and more money every year, just so they can buy a few more mansions, or boats, planes, cars, etc. and oh, let's not forget so they can support their DRUG HABITS! Wake up people! Stop supporting this kind of behaviour! I have nothing against the actual sports themselves, but the sad fact is that it's so totally blown out of proportion that is truly sickening to me!

for any sport that requires a club, stick, racket, pole, cesta, broom (curling... ha!), bat, or other such equipment.

person, ball (or object to show team in possession), opposing person, goal, score -- that's what i watch and enjoy. football, basketball, hockey, rugby. done and done.

and to keep it slightly on topic, i wish more people were investing in xserves like this, but it requires forethought that a lot of execs these days don't have. they only see the cost of operating per quarter. too high, they get mad. regardless of how much it will save next year same quarter, or next several years.

Just so you know, I was recently watching a hockey game and noticed them using sticks. Of course I might be confused.

But yes, let's get this back on topic. The XServe is a nice machine, I hope to put together a compute cluster of them, but methinks I will wait till July.

Soccer has a lot of these as well... I always forget about soccer probably because I'm american. I do like indoor soccer...but considering basketball players are behemouths compared to soccer players I think basketball players have the edge. Most shorter guys have a lower center of gravity and have better coordination but a guy Kobe's size with that kind of ability.. think about it.

Cycling?? Umm ok he guy has stamina and strength... let's not go overboard.

tour de france is 8+ hours for like 3 weeks.

i was the one who wrote about no respect for games with sticks, rackets, etc., and then firmly put my foot in my mouth by saying that i like hocky. i don't. i typed that completely without being aware of it. i think i have now lived in canada TOO LONG. ugh.
