Apple today announced it would offer a satellite broadcast of the , which promised announcements that would be "music to your ears." Apple said the presentation will be available via satellite at the following coordinates on Monday, April 28th at 1:00 p.m. EDT:

Ku-band
Telstar 5/Transponder: 25 K
Orbital Slot: 97 degrees west
Uplink Frequency: 14444.0 MHz
Downlink Frequency: 12144.0 MHz
Polarity: Vertical down
Audio subcarriers: 6.2 and 6.8
C-band
Galaxy 3C/Transponder 1 C
Orbital Slot: 95 degrees west
Uplink Frequency: 5945 MHz
Downlink Frequency: 3720 MHz
Downlink Polarity: Horizontal down

It'll be streamed.

The sat. link is so the major news networks can pull video and use it in newscasts. Much higher quality than a online quicktime stream.

Webcasting?

Webcasting has proven in the past not to reach a wide enough audience, these tend to be very popular to watch and in the past they reach their limits very quickly. Satellite has a better chance at reaching more people. And yes, Webcasting is a bit more expensive.

Yeah, right, YOU ALONE knew the iPod was coming out ahead of time. And what a disappointment THAT's been.

Anyway, for those that don't know, this will be unveiling Apple's new music-download service, updated iTunes and updated iPods. Beyond that (if anything beyond that), nobody can say for sure.

XM Feed

I have XM satellite radio. I will be able to tune this broadcast in over my radio, right? I mean, it is satellite, right? I'll just call XM Customer Service and have them tune that in...they will do that, won't they? (this is sarcasm for anyone who hasn't noticed)

You need a C-band sattelite dish, not the little kind that you mount on a roof. These are big, like the ones you sometimes see behind hotels. DirecTV/Dish Network won't cut it. The dishes cost like $10000 but after that the programming is free (because you manually enter the coordinates of the station you want to watch).

$10000 is too much...

Ummm...sorry to disappoint you but I bought a C-band dish and receiver for my mother in law about 4 years ago for $250. Granted it's not one of those big monsters you use to see a lot in back yards nor is it one of the ones that is motorized but it was good enough to pick up the programming she's interested in.

We want a webcast!

It seems that apple should od a webcast, especially if th anouncements would be mainly macintosh-related, and that everyone has internet, but not everyone has satellite.
