c|net: Apple to include DVD-R as BTO option

updated 04:49 pm EST, Fri January 5, 2001

Apple, as well as Compaq, is "scrambling" to include the ability to record DVDs in its next line of Power Macs expected next week at Macworld Expo, according to c|net. The article notes that the DVD-R drives, expected as a build-to-order option, would be a logical extension of the company's focus on video/content creation using iMovie 2, but omits mention of Apple's recent purchase of DVD-software developer Astarte. (Yesterday we noted that Compaq will be including Pioneer's DVD-R/CD combo drive in its high-end Presario PC.)

and this is different than a DVD/CD-RW drive, huh?

Please Apple, don't take DVD-RAM away completely, It'n not bad, or at least have it as a cheap built-to-order.

apple purchased 'em a ways back...and some audio mastering software from the losers @ prosoft. looks more like dvd mastering studio from apple-bundled w/$1299 imacs and g4s this year...exciting stuff.
