VillageTronic preps affordable video card

updated 04:45 pm EST, Fri January 5, 2001

German graphics card maker VillageTronic will soon introduce the MPDD, a $100 video card designed for affordably adding a second display to your Mac. The card features 8 MB of RAM, Apple RGB and VGA connectors, lacks 3D acceleration, and supports refresh rates as high as 160 Hz. VillageTronic is working on securing a US distribution partner for the card, and plans on shipping it to the US and European markets in the near future.

    Still alive?

    Wow, the latest new on their website is from the begining of last year,
    so I thought they were long gone.

    Why?

    Why would I want to buy that for $100 when I could get a Voodoo3 card which includes 16 MB VRAM and pretty decent 3D acceleration for under $80?

    Support, that's Why!

    Voodoo 3 won't be supported once OS X is available, and if it is, who knows about driver support.

    If I didn't have a AGP slot, or was looking for a second card w/o paying ATI high price for the same thing and I didn't need the 3D graphics on the second video I'd buy it in heart beat. But since Apple decided 3 PCI slots was more than enough I can't. Oh well.

    Talk about LAME!

    Just ignore them. This is not a serious company.
    I made the mistake and purchased two different models
    of their cards last year and they kept promising and couldn't deliver software that would work for months, well past them time much better boards from other companies became available.
    It would be better they go out of business than dilute the market with inferior and incomplete products.
    Sad.

    VillageTronic=NO support!

    Bought one of their cards almost 2 years ago, and they still haven't delivered working OpenGL drivers as promised!!! Don't spend your money on any Village Tronic product, you might as well flush them down the toilet!
