Anyone who installs a KEXT that did not come from Apple or a trusted software vendor / source (i.e. you compiled it your self) is a bloody fool.
and how do i know if the installer installed a kext?
hmmm?
I've done this days ago when 10.2.5 came out.
A valid Kext is within the 10.2.4 Combo Updater. Just extract it with "Pacifist" and you should be ready.
Otherwise a copy from another Mac would do too.
Look within the Apple Support Discussion forums ("MacOS X / Installation And Setup") for a Thread called "10.2.5 Kernel Panic in IOUSBHub.kext" . There are detailed informations how to replace the Kext.
Boy someone didn't follow the link! It leads directly to Apples Developer site where they have links for downloading the developer kit for this KEXT. Next time check up on what you are writing about.

And you're a bloody moron.
I need to use my computer *NOW*, not whenever-the-bloody-h*** Apple choose to actually *FIX* their bugs.

The link has been updated to 1.9.8 but the older file is still there. Just needed to do a bit of creative tinkering with the URL to get to it. :-)
I had to start up from Jaguar CD and run "Repair Disk Permissions" from Disk Utility after installing older .kext file. Just in case your usb stuff doesn't work after the change...
this is different than the topic, but, I'm routinely having troubles waking up the powermac...I am increasingly convinced that the USB shuts down power, there is no response. The mac is humming along, and I don't think it (the system) is frozen????
my keyboard and trackball don't use the USB hub, but, I do have a 2.0 orange micro hub on the other USB port....
any thoughts?
the machine in question is a dual 800 G4 / superdrive quicksilver if it matters, not one of the new machines; also, the hub is 2.0 compliant, but hooked up to the regular ol' 1.1 USB on the mac (just bought it for future compatablility....)
thanks for thinking about it, would appreciate any input...not finding answers elsewhere yet.
