With their slipping market share and increasing irrelevance in the computer market (read - slow as dirt desktops that are the joke of the industry), Apple WILL go under at some point. Some ships just sink slower than others - unfortunately cool looking iMacs wont keep Apple alive for long.

First off, without Apple innovation on peecees would all be cease to exist, after all, Apple does, and the industry (Dull, Comcrack, Gatewaytohell) all follow their cues. Wow, Dull is doing away with floppies (yawn Apple did five years ago). Wow, all the laptops have a slick silver look (yawn, copying the TiPB, cheap copy, their computers are built with cheap plastics). Wow, computers that are Graphite in color as opposed to Beige, oh, yeah, copying Apple's G4 models from four years ago. Aside from Intel which are merely milking the same old tired chip for not-as-good-as-on-paper speed gains, peecees would remain the same. And Microsuck would be stuck with XP as the most innovation they could think of because, well, Microsuck DOESN'T innovate, only steal ideas, which, of course, is the norm of the computer industry... Apple does something, and everyone scrambles to follow or, at best, keep up with their own half-assed attempts.

And Apple is going to have to die slowly, if they don't buy Universal (they shouldn't) they'll still have 4.5 BILLION in the bank... IN THE BANK! Meanwhile the majority of other peecee makers are barely in the black, many are in the red. Even Dull computers, if they had to close tomorrow, couldn't pay out per share of stock as well as Apple, yes, darling beloved (soulless, evil, copying f-wads) Dull computers isn't worth what Apple is despite their mindf*cking and masturbation by the peecee press. (sidenote: a cool $10K to anyone who want to drop a bullet in Mike Dell's head between his beady little soulless eyes, takers?)

So yeah yeah trolls, Apple is REALLY dead now. Oooh, sooo scared. Give it a rest, been hearing it since 97 and Apple's only gained profitability. The 970s will stabilize the whole market share c*** for Apple and yes, I will agree with that talking (head) point... right now Apple did drop the ball on processor speeds, they know it, any logical Machead knows it, but they're going to rectify that and then some, potentially to the point where not only will Macs be faster than peecees in test, but even by the entire MHz myth. Peecee weenies can eat my stool when we're cooking with 5 GHz 970s at 64 bit processing and they're doing their boring gray work on 4.5 Pentium 32 bit processing. (note: by IBM's own estimation the timeline getting the 970/Power4/5 architecture faster and faster beats the same road map for even Intel's best offerings, hence, karmic vengence, Intel will get their subpar quality chip asses handed to them).

Slipping Market share: Many Apple products are making strong inroads - iPod, Studio Displays (I listened to PC Weenies OOH and AHH for days over those).

Irrelevance: You have to be stupid to say this. Apple brought USB and Firewire to market, as well as home Wireless networks (Yes these products existed before Apple (802.11 and USB), but they didn't hit the consumer market until Apple introduced them).

Of course every company eventually folds - it is just a matter of time. However, idiots like you have been making the exact same lame predictions since 1984.

There are two kind of Mac users out there... those that lived through the "dark days" of apple (circa 1997) and those who didn't. The market was booming and Apple still was in the red quarter after quarter. They were just coming off of a much hyped OS failure and I think every Mac user took a second to see what the other side of the fence had to offer. Many software companies either dropped support for the Mac or simply didn't acknowledge its existence.

NOW, walk into any computer store and 80+% of the printers, hard drives, keyboards, mice, etc. all have (OS X compatible) badges on them. It warms my heart.

If Apple can deliver the 970 in a reasonable price point I think you are going to see the market explode. SOOOoooooooooo many people are holding out for the 970 it's crazy. To be honest, I picked up a 733 tower a little over a year ago, and now am just waiting... It's not a matter of "IF" I'm going to buy another mac, but just if it's going to be the first incarnation of the 970 or the second!

P.S. : The Mac is back (sorry... I'm feeding the trolls)

Its bull. Just because something is reported doesn't make it so. And remember, don't put it past a company to talk about fictional 'offers' in order to drive the price of the stock or value up for other offers. (The ol' realtor's "Well, you can think about whether you want to buy this place, but I'm meeting with someone else this afternoon who's really interested in buying it, so make up your mind quickly..." kind of thing.)

(Reuters) Vivendi Universal director Claude Bebear denied on Wednesday having given his view on talks between Vivendi and Apple Computer Inc. (NasdaqNM:AAPL - News) after a report quoted him as saying he believed Apple would bid $6 billion for Vivendi's music business.

"Regarding a report by Bloomberg, Claude Bebear denies having given a view on any negotiations which may be underway," a spokesman said, reading a statement given to him by Bebear.

"He believes that as a director it is not up to him to make such a declaration," the spokesman added.

"He believes that as a director it is not up to him to make such a declaration," the spokesman added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bloomberg quoted Bebear in an interview as saying that Apple would "probably make an offer for the music business for about $6 billion."

According to the interview, Bebear said a $6 billion offer was "a bit low."
