MacNN reader Hyok Ki Chung writes: "While browsing a Korean Mac magazine site, I found this interesting article. It's about the USB 2.0 controller chipset on MDD Power Mac 1.25GHz and 1.4GHz motherboards. According to this article, the controller is made by NEC, model number µPD720101. This is the link for the article; The article is in Korean, but basically what it describes the NEC USB 2.0 controller. It also mentions about the driver saying that Mac version is not available yet. Here is the link for the controller [on NEC's site in English]. It looks like we already have USB 2.0 built-in Power Macs. I guess it‚s just matter of time. Hopefully, Apple will add the driver to an updater soon."

I wonder if that is the new 1.25's or the old ones as well?

I wonder if any of it is true. Aren't there USB 2.0 PCI cards available for Mac (with drivers) why would it take so long to get a driver made? It can't be that different from the implementations already done.

It would be a nice surprise for it to be true though...

it is that part no., also googled it and it IS a USB 2.0 chip, it also could not be wired to the system board in a way that would allow it to act as a usb1.1 only. Looks like a political decision by appl to me.

110093 04/15, 3:11pm, EDT USB 2 = USB 1.1
Warning ! USB 1.1 has been renamed USB 2 for a few months...

USB 2 normal speed = USB 1.1

USB 2 High Speed = USB 2

So that's not the real USB 2 !!!
