Apple to launch wireless display PC?

The DigiTimes reports that Apple "plans to launch a , according to sources. The display is said to resemble a Tablet PC in appearance and include a detachable keyboard but not have a battery. Whether it has handwriting recognition or any screen input capability is unclear." The report indicates that Taiwan�s Quanta Computer will contract manufacture the product and that Quanta has already begun test production. The same article notes the upcoming release of a 19-inch flat-panel iMac as well.

can someone explain to me how it gets power/signal?
bluetooth cannot handle graphics can it?

yep. if the screen has 802.11g and a cpu capable of doinf real-time decompression you could transmit the screen image from a running mac to the tablet.

another solution would be something like a remote-login session (like under linux with xfree86), but os x doesn't support multiple concurrent login sessions up to now. maybe that's part of 10.3...? :)

even a solar cell would be pretty useless without a battery... out go the lights, out goes your display.

i suppose a nuclear cell could be made to work. it'd be a trick to convert the steam generator into electricity in anything resembling a portable device, but come on, this is Apple! they can do anything!

C'mon... 19" iMacs? Is Apple just using these things to sell LCDs?

I've got three displays right here-- two 20" Cinema LCD displays and a pro 21" Sony CRT. Last thing I need is another display, 19" or not.

Give me a display-less consumer Mac for under $1000 and I'll buy TWO of them for my kids.

I wonder...

...if it could be used like a second monitor (using a wireless video paradigm...Enfocus did it!). Or possibly it'll be a very stripped computer that runs Remote Desktop, allowing one to control every function of your main system. If it came a very low price ($300 or so) I would buy one and so would many others, me thinks.

Battery-powered tablet, the keyboard can also be wireless (bluetooth) but will have to have a battery to transmit a signal.

If this thing works like it should, I can stop saving for my overpriced Wacom Cintiq.

capaciter?

capaciters arn't batteries but they do the same function maybe it has a light weight high capacity capaciter instead of a li-ion battery
