Analyst: don't expect Apple phone

Mac fans are clamoring for Apple to develop its own cell phone, but Wireless Supersite Editor Ross Rubin explains why the company "." Rubin says that control over distribution is paramount at Apple: "In Steve's world, distribution is a necessary evil; I can just see him storming around the board room, asking Al Gore why users can't just come to Cupertino to pick up their Macs." Rubin compares the potential situation to that of Apple's retail experience, in which it resorted to opening its own stores: "the company wants to control so much of the user experience -- from your presentation package to your email address -- that if it could break even delivering its own products instead of using Airborne Express, it would."

    Hmm...

I agree that we shouldn't hold our breath for an Apple cell phone (though it would be nice) but his reasons for it are just bizzare.

    Duh.

Of course Jobs wants to control the expeirence. it's how high-end auto makers make buying thier cars special. Jobs is pulling his playbook from BMW and Jaguar.

I think re-inventing the newton would be a better plan than a cell phone.

Well, Apple is getting rid of all the dealers, including Target, Best Buy, Sears, and all the mom and pops, so the guys isn't that off the mark. Apple wants everyone to go to an Apple Store or Apple.com.

They want you to use their software with their hardware. They are competing with software developers too and the developers are starting to drop the Mac. Case in point, Adobe is making Encore and Album Windows-only. Adobe at NAB has not a single Mac in their booth and doesn't even mention the Mac.

Does OS X come with themes? h*** no. Apple wants OS X to look the way they want it.

Does the Mac have DVI? h*** no. It comes with Apple's proprietary monitor connection, which makes video cards come out much later for the Mac and requires expensive adapters if you are foolish enough not to use Apple's monitors.

    The guy is right.

I agree no Apple phone, but the bitter rant lowers creditability.

    ADC vs. DVI

ADC is better tha DVI and eventually should replace it.
