Apple today said that the recent contract disputes that have led to both :

"According to sources, some of the dealers in question were unhappy with new clauses inserted by Apple into its contract, including one that gave Apple the right to inspect its resellers' business records even after a dealer was no longer selling the company's products. ...A group of smaller dealers is suing Apple over its business practices, alleging, among other things, that the company gives preferential treatment to its own retail outlets."

    1.5% of Total Revenue...

But what %-age of iPod revenue?

Many many heads that Apple would never otherwise enter, will see the iPod if it is on the counter in Target or at dell.com.

Has Apple given up on the other 95% already?

    One point Five Percent

Wow, Apple is doing so well they can just walk away from 1.5% or how many millions in sales? I think the Al Gore school of economics is being taught here. I know but it didn't cost us 80 million bucks, we saved 10 million in mailing cost to those vendors. The thought of trying to limit your exposure to liability by throwing away that kind of change is stupid. Clearly, this is a one sided contract and not equitable in any way shape or form. Those signing are prisoners of Apple and need to diversify of go under. It is only a matter of time before there is a 'company store' competing next door to the local sellers. What then?

    huh?

Yes, I'm sure it's all Al Gore's fault. Good call there. I hope you post more often in the future.

after the companies, then come the customers who will be bound and gaged to apples whim. Geez, they are becoming more like a dictatorship, wait until they have a bigger marketshare. They'll make Microsoft look all warm and fuzzy.

    wait until...???

larger market share? LARGER MARKET SHARE??

Let's see now... when Jubs pulled off his coup, their revenue was what 11 billion? Marketshare was what, 7-8%. Noe heir revenue is 5.7 billion and marketshare is what 3%?

Oh, BTW, coming soon, they will be "extending" many of the provisions of that new reseller contract to all purchasers. Wanna buy a Mac? Well, you'll have to turn over to them every single e-mail address you have on your comuter to them. AND you'll be obliged to do this for 5 full YEARS after you dispose of your Mac. And there will NOT be any warrenty; something goes wrong, tougyh s***. Oh and finally, if your upset about you Mac breaking 3 months after you bought it, you will NOT be allowed to sue or take any legal action against them.

    1% marketshare herrrrrrre we come!

    authorized dealers out to

A local dealer (who just fixed my mac) is closing in a month because of this new contract. Apple is just asking for too much and taking away any rights of these resellers, it's depressing to see a company I admire and rally for act this way towards it's own faithful.
