This CREATE expo is so scary sounding, the only non-pro users they're gonna get are the ones who forget that Macworld is gone. I'd hate to be on that show floor, the crickets will be out en force...

Actually ...

... this sounds like a great way to help Apple service the creative/publishing/multimedia industries (its cornerstone markets) which it has kinda been neglecting a bit lately in its push for the consumer/retail market. And it's good to know that IDG and Apple can still work together. I will most likely attend, particularly as the buzz about new G4 (or G5? dare one hope) towers will probably be quite thick by then.

Now if we can just get Apple to exhibit in some fashion at MW Boston, everything will be all peachy. Creatives in NY (the main audience in NY anyway) will get their show, the devs will get their show in Boston, everybody happy. The fact that IDG and Apple are still collaborating shows that this could happen. Cross your fingers.

You haven't seen what this exhibition truely is about and there you are, complaining without reason. At least, we people critized me, I had some good reasons to speak up. I believe you don't. Not until we've seen what Create is really about.

Remember Apple Expo?

I used to go to Apple Expo (London) anually - quite a trek from Manchester. In the late 90s, they created a split show called Total Design Technology, which allowed PCs in as well and was much less consumer orientated. A year or so later, the whole thing was cancelled.

Poor MacWorld.....Boston blows...I wouldn't go there anyway. Whatever is in New York, be it Create, iShow, or Applelooza, ..it's a better choice than Boston. You may hear crickets on the floor, but who isn't these days..and many you will get some more time for your answers, like why can't Airport Extreme operate telephony / fax apps, and how about software base stations supporting Personal Web Sharing, and that new USB port....How about a web cam driver?

"Gone are the days of these huge shows" my f****. This replaces MWNY, not MWSF. MWSF was always the bigger and better show and always had CONSIDERABLY higher attendance statistics (compare in the range of 60,000 for MWNY to 90,000 for MWSF).

This is a wise move, because as the other guy said, this reaffirms Apple's commitment to its cornerstone markets that it has recently been neglecting (which has culminated in Adobe going to Windows as their preferred platform). The only catch is that they kill off a rather lame Macworld that has sucked for the last few years anyway. MWSF was always where it's at.

Will Adobe have software running on their "preferred" PCs at the show?
Will Quark have "old" macs running OS9 so they can demo their working product or will they just do it on PCs?
As Create the show will lose it's Mac focus very quickly and that's the last thing the creative industry needs right now!

It's not whining, and it is a loss.

Already we see that vendors are staying away in droves (thanks, Yogi). Macworld *could* have existed without Stevie, but too many got scared.

Stevie is off the hook- he saves a ton of money by not attending these shows, and he's not obligated to "produce" for them, or come up with Creative spin doctoring.

But the Mac centric theme will likely fade serverely, if not altogether. That's too bad because MWX was a place to see tons of new stuff that may not make it to market for months.

I'll miss it, and I bet Create never comes close to providing the same excitement.
