Cisco already has superior security and networking options available for their embedded systems, especially when it comes to data security on shared volumes.
So LaCie uses XP which already had previous problems when, regardless of encryption strength, the embedded system (Windows XP Embedded) still allowed the data to be viewed and copied without the key.
I guess some people never learn.

Man, what a bunch of fscking idiots.
They could have used any Linux, but no, they had to choose XP.
It will cost them more and it will cause us more troubles. I'm not gonna buy for sure.
