Alsoft DiskWarrior 3.0 pre-orders for OS X

updated 04:15 pm EST, Wed March 19, 2003

", 0, 0);

Alsoft is taking pre-orders for its upgrade; the latest version provides Mac OS X native directory repair: "This version is not a simple port to Mac OS X; extensive changes have been made to the application, allowing DiskWarrior to take advantage of advanced technologies in Mac OS X. The new version offers dramatic speed improvements, supports file journaling and Mac OS X RAIDs, offers full Unicode support, conforms to Apple's security standards, uses Mac OS X's native memory model, and rebuilds directories on disks as large as 2,000 gigabytes (2 terabytes)." The $40 upgrade is available only on a Mac OS X bootable CD. (No information is available for full version pricing or the ship date.)

    now to comment about disk

    does anyone besides me remember that as early as late last year they were "working on a new edition" and would give free upgrades to any new purchase.. now they are changing to only purchases since Feb 1st. (as a matter of fact, I remember them trying to get me to buy a copy at the last MacWorld New York - and part of the sales pitch was a free upgrade to the version they WERE SHOWING ON OS X when it came out)

    I'm calling foul on this one!

    I will wait...

    To be useful, you need to be able to boot from the DiskWarrior CD. If you have a 3.0 CD and they release 3.0.1 soon after, you'll have to pay Alsoft another $8 to get a new CD. I will wait until they release a few point updates before I order.

    Want a laugh? I just checked out their website then clicked on the "Order via our secure site" link and it's not working! Let me clarify: Safari said it could not make a connection; maybe Safari is the screwup.

    Calling foul?? on Alsoft?

    Above someone mentioned that he/she was calling foul because:

    "now they are changing to only purchases since Feb 1st"

    That's not correct. The web site cleartly states:

    "If you purchased DiskWarrior and received a coupon for a free upgrade to version 3.0, you are also eligible for a free upgrade. In either case, please order through our Sales Department directly to ensure the proper processing of your order. "

    All purchasers of DiskWarrior at MacWorld received a coupon. The person that posted the message above will receive what was promised, as will eveyone else that bought at MacWorld.
