    3-Way ???

Now I realize it might be a typo (3-day), but likely, its going to be a week. And would you want some low-paid tech to access all those mp3s, mpegs, and jpeg collection you have? Or those proprietary design and web work you stored on the drive, only to show up on some FTP site? Think about it.
Now, I will be forthright and state that MacResQ pays ads on this site (plug) and on others. And that they may have merged in the past with another company. But their track record with two of my clients left several complaints with the BBB of Southern California.
And consider that they get your machine, and figure its need a part that is out of stock. Do they send it back? Well, is it 3 days to them, a day to diagnose, and 3 days back?

Also, check to see if they put stickers all over your computer internals. That way, if you try to upgrade the RAM, they will know, and void any work they did. Why? Because you didn't call their upstart tech and ask permission to upgrade the ram. (true story)

So...I know a mac service that visits your home, and if they can't fix it on site, gets the part in a day and your down time is only 2-3 days tops. Not a week or more.

Personally, I'd rather spend an extra $70 (+$130= $200) and get 2 more years of Applecare, and sell the mac when its got 10 months left, so some need designer on ebay.

    my experience

i used their powerbookresq service to get my ibook repaired a while ago. if you're in a hurry to get it fixed i suggest you use someone else. i paid the 99bux for the deal where they ship you a box overnight, you send it back overnight and they claim it gets fixed then overnighted back.

i got the box the day after i ordered and packed my ibook up. i then called airborn express to pick it up. well apparently the box got to macresq and no one was there. so my ibook sat at the airborn depot for a day before they could re-try the delivery. so it finally gets there on wednesday, i wait, no call. i call, no answer. then they call me back. they hadn't even looked at the laptop yet and wouldn't get to it until the next day (ok so its shipped on monday, sits on tuesday, sits more on wednesday, maybe thursday they will look at it?). so thursday rolls around, no call. i call, they can't even find my laptop in their system. someone goes and finds it and apparently someone is looking at it but i sort of doubted it at that point. finally i get a call back later with the repairs and cost and it will be done and go out the door that evening. wrong again, i wait, i call, still hasn't shipped. i call (now friday) and they are still working on it. what happened to shipping thursday night? anyway. it ends up getting shipped back monday ( a full week later) and i get it tuesday.

as far as quality of work its ok, nothing great. my back hinge was broke and they repaired it but some stuff doesn't align properly still. and get this, they only use refurb parts. i didn't notice that disclaimer anywhere on the site. i personally don't care if its just plastic bits i'm getting replaced but for serious stuff like a logic board or even an lcd i'd be more likely to go elsewhere and try and get new parts.

    Looks great to me

The first poster seems to have misread the article. It's 3-way OVERNIGHT shipping, not 3-day shipping. One of the main selling points seems to be the speed of the service.

This is a much-needed service for my area, where there are no local Mac repair shops. I don't see why they would be any risker than any other repair shop vis-a-vis the chance of something being stolen of your hard drive. With MacResQ's longevity and good reputation (I've been a happy customer for several years), I would trust them more than a place I had never used.

So tell me, how I misread

How do you do 3-Way shipping? You mean, they send box, you pack up and send back and then they ship back for that fee, right.

I understood it clearly. But I meant they won't fix the problem in a day. Likely several, and if you don't ship it out on a Monday (not happening lest you get the box by previous Friday) they won't get it out till the next thursday or Friday, so it will be a week.

Most of you can do better, unless like those few, you have no local Mac shop.

And they hardly have a good reputation. alteast not several years ago. Likely before they merged (should have changed name...).

For powerbooks, everyone I know uses DTTservice dot com. they fix logicboard level repairs, pritner parts ... and again, they don't put DO NOT REMOVE stickers on everything YOU own.

    to each his own.
