Several readers have reported availability of QuickTime 5.0b2 components through the QuickTime Updater application (but not the Apple Software Control Panel), noting that the new components are dated December 19, 2000 and replaced the older versions installed with QT Public Preview 2 (5.0a13c9), which was released in early December. [We were unable to confirm this.]

I noticed that two QT extensions were of earlier alpha versions than the previous installation. Check your Quicktime components carefully before and after updating them
This new beta version produces a new "QUICKTIME" window on startup. I appear to get a graphic curruption on the top left of the window.
The two Quicktime browser Plug-ins are thrown outside the Quicktime folder, which mycase is inside MacOS9's default Applications Folder.
Among other things, QuickTime 5 does not appear to be compatible with Kritter cams.
The resulting "pictures" are white boxes.
Downgrading to QuickTime 4 solved the problem for me.
I suspect that Quicktime 5.0b2 installed an extension preventing my clean install from working properly when I tried to install QuickTime during my clean install. I had to remove all the extensions from QT 5.0b2 for the clean install to work properly. Before that, I was unable to use printers on my Cardbus USB card, namely the Lexmark Z52. I have a Powerbook G3/233 with 512k backside.
I actually was able to update to 5.0b2 to my surprise just before Christmas. I guess they pulled it soon after as no one had since confirmed the existence of 5.0b2 until now.
I had some "wrong version of extensions" errors just as the installer finished, but no errors since then. I'd guess the prior version of QT was trying to load the newly installed extensions.
The funny graphic in the top-left corner of the startup movie looks to be a scaled copy of the movie that subsequently loads in a new window (closing the original). So it's not really corruption so much as a very distracting graphical loading glitch.
I have the preview 2 (5.0) installed and when running the Quicktime updater it tells me that all of my components are up to date.
I switched back to Preview 2 after a couple of minutes. Just had a bad feeling about 5.0b2. It seems slower and somewhat shaky. And the start-up window - uhhh.....

Tried running updater, it said all current.
D/L'd the standalone installer (v 5.0a13c9) but after running it as an updater, all extensions show v 5.0a13c8.
Uninstalled and then did a full install, extensions still show 5.0a13c8

It's appaer that there's some difficulties to download all the components for QT 5.0b2c2. Anyone had seen the same?
The bugs is a problem with the installer itself...

Quicktime Update.
I noticed that QuickTime™ has been updated to version 5.0b2 via the QuickTime Updater. The version update instals the "QuickTime" extension, (version 5.0b2 Created: November 21, 2000 Modified: December 14, 2000).
Also updated are QuickTime™ VR, QuickTime™ PowerPlug and the contents of the "QuickTime Extensions" folder.
