Proxim has announced Tsunami MP.11, a new family of economical wireless outdoor point-to-multipoint solutions enabling "campus connectivity, security and surveillance, and residential last-mile access." The family enables the instant creation of wireless WANs for a number of applications such as security and surveillance and portable classrooms.

The product family includes two subscriber units - an Enterprise Subscriber Unit ($600) for businesses and a Residential Subscriber Unit ($400) for homes. The product family also includes the Tsunami MP.11 Base Station Unit ($1000), which can connect up to 100 Subscriber Units of either type. Tsunami MP.11 is based on Proxim’s Wireless Outdoor Router Protocol (WORP), which is designed to deliver 20-40% faster performance than existing outdoor router solutions and also offers Asymmetric Bandwidth Throttling options. The 802.11b products will be compatible with both 802.11a and 802.11g standards in teh future. It will be available in March.
