MatchLight analyzes image lighting info

MatchLight today updated its application, which is designed to "help digital artists and photographers predictably and consistently match the lighting conditions of both foreground and background images in order to create realistic image composites."
The MatchLight software analyzes the lighting information contained in the image and then indexes the lighting information as metadata to produce a "Light Map" to graphically illustrate light direction, light quality (diffused-hard), light elevation and camera angle. This information can be used to match the lighting characteristics of the foreground image to those of the location backgrounds found in MatchLight's library of over 25,000 location images.
Version 2.0 features improved algorithms for enhanced Target selection and recognition, a new Marquee Tool for Quick Target Recognition and Image Analysis, manual editing of the generated LightMap, JPEG-based printing of LightMaps, Internet integration, and support for both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.
The $1000 also includes a set of three Light Targets. Customers who purchase Version 2.0 before March 31, 2003 are also eligible to receive three free high resolution location background images (retail value $600) from MatchLight’s library.
