If you are wondering why you get this message when copying and pasting from the Apple website:
usage: sysctl [-bn] variable ...
sysctl [-bn] -w variable=value ...
sysctl [-bn] -a
sysctl [-bn] -A
sysctl [-bn] -X
Then you have to take out the spaces in the last few characters:
INCORRECT: sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.linklocal.in.allowbadttl = 1
CORRECT: sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.linklocal.in.allowbadttl=1
