    um, humorless one?

To the guy above "no one's stopping you" pull your head out of your a**, the first guy was joking. You're probably one of those Mac Freaks that give us true Mac lovers with some pragmatical view of Apple a bad name by drinking any Koolaid Jobs puts out there (not that your small mind even followed those references) and doesn't get why Apple needs faster processors.

Anyways 260 job cuts in this economy seems small change, not that it doesn't suck any less for those 260.

260 jobs??? WTF!!! I'm right behind you, dude, as I'm not sure anyone's left at Apple. Well, besides Steve, Fred, and Avie. Maybe they'll move back to Woz's garage...

    Hiring employees

The fact that Apple eliminated 260 jobs is insignifigant. If you actually pay attention to what the article says, well over half of the jobs eliminated were from closing the manufacturing plant in Singapore!

Also I am sure that Apple hires new people on a regular basis. However, when Apple adds new job positions a few at a time, it does not make the news; we just hear when they cut jobs.

The article also mentions that Apple has employment growth in the area of retail sales. Of course that should be obvious to anyone who gives it any thought. Everytime Apple opens a new Apple Store, they create at least 20-30+ new jobs. Apple sems to be opening new stores all the time. Right now Apple has almost 60 Apple Stores nationwide; that means that they have added well over a thousand jobs since opening the first Apple Store.

    Hiring H-1Bs, though

    Apple hired 50 H-1Bs in 2002, according to http://h1b.info/
Granted, these are different jobs than the ones that were laid off. But, I find it hard to believe that Apple couldn't find 50 qualified US Citizens in Silicon Valley to fill these positions. Looks like Apple is taking the low road, along with many other tech companies.

    H1-Bs

Wow, only 50 H1-Bs? That's a pittance compared to some other companies (like MS).
