Apple still evaluating MWNY 2003

updated 02:50 pm EST, Thu February 6, 2003

Apple reiterated that it will not be in 2004 and said that it is still reevaluating its participation in Macworld Expo New York this July: "Since IDG is no longer investing in New York, we now need to reevaluate our participation in Macworld New York 2003," according to The Boston Globe, which quotes an Apple statement following the departure of IDG's CEO Charlie Greco yesterday.

    Same story on Comdex

Most all vendors going to Comdex have stated they are going to drop Comdex for CES because of the exposure.

Apple is probably looking at going to CES consistanly and dropping MWNY and MW Boston

    Is this an excuse?

Is Apple just making the switch to Boston an excuse to get out of Macworld?
Macworld started in Boston , you would think Steve would like to go back there. Very Strange.

    Sounds like excuse

Apple should just dish out the truth and say they are dropping macworld shows.

    Not economical

to have to have a presence at so many shows. Siebold, CES, MWSF, ADC, MWNY, COMDEX, NAB, DVExpo...to name a few.

And for Apple to get a foot in with corporate, there are certan Gov't trade show to attend, and UNIX shows too. Amazing when you think about it.

I wish they would just combine Apple (MacWorld) with the PC Expo and Linux and just call it CpuXpo. One on each coast. Not cheap flying all over for news I get on websites (well, this site is likely one, albeit late and rehashed) :P

    CES

Apple has never BEEN at CES before! That would be a great move for them! They should drop a MacWorld (which is preaching to the choir, anyways) and go to CES (which is primarily a Windows-oriented audience). It makes sense for Apple to branch out into new conventions; it doesn't make sense for them to drop a convention without choosing other conventions to pick up the slack.

    are expos still needed???

seriously, i catch the keynote on webcast, and all the news from vendors websites and news sites. i don't need the free t-shirts, nor the headache of finding hotel.

i would be interested in the learning seminars, though these days they tend to be more fluff and advertisements at trade shows than anything else.

so give me free webcasts at the apple stores, and on the apple website, access to some decent fee-based and free seminars within acceptible driving distance, and i couldn't care less if the shows went the way of the dinosaur.

Apple doesn't run the MacWorld shows, so its not their place to drop them.
