Tax Cut Software: state, federal problems
updated 12:25 pm EST, Thu February 6, 2003
MacNN reader Mack Bolan notes that H&Block's Tax Cut software does not currently have . A statement on their Website says the downloads are expected to be available at the end of the month. Meanwhile, another reader talks about problems with the Federal version as well:
"The federal version has big problems too. They haven't yet released a Mac update to revise forms that weren't complete when the product was initially released. This means you can't complete and file a return, at least electronically -- the program won't allow you to! What's worse is that the TaxCut site says nothing about this. You only find out when you complete all your entry in the program and get ready to file." [updated]

Not delayed!

I wouldn't call this delayed, as this was the time-frame posted on their web-site last month. They are 'delayed' only in the sense PC versions are available now. That would be a stretch on the definition of the word, however.
Hey, and if you're using tax software, you'd be silly to submit your taxes before March, anyway. You never can tell when some bug in the program gives you a $2000 refund that turns out should be a $500 payment.

Clarification

Looking at the TaxCut web site, it appears you are prohibited from filing electronically (as of now) only if you use about five forms which most people won't need anyway. BTW, a new update was released on Wednesday (2/5) I think it was. And I don't concur with the comments above about not filing before March. Folks who are getting a refund would want to file as soon as possible. Use that refund to buy a new Mac. ;-)
