A reader has written instructions for with Mac OS X: " I was frustrated with the lack of information available on TiVo Community and Deal Database forums for Mac owners. The only solutions I found on these boards were overly elaborate and involved either Virtual PC or an additional Wintel box."

    rendezvous connection...

If memory serves, I do remember TiVo being mentioned as one of the early adopters of Rendezvous in future products.. Making assumptions using business press announcements is tantamount to failure at times, but at the very least one could surmise some sort of bridge would be in the works on a more formal level..

    Kinf of Tivo-ish

I actually have a DishPlayer 500 unit that's a few years old. Upgraded the hard disk to an 80Gig and I can record more that 60 hours of stuff. The best part is that there's an S-video out and well as stereo audio RCA jacks. These two can output from the digital satellite to the digital hard disk directly into my digital video camera which can then be imported into iMovie. The content appears to be digitally flawless and allows me to grab sequences from movies and sporting events and music videos and use them in presentations and home movies and whatnot. Very cool set-up. I sense that a similar setupo can be done with a Tivo.

    DishNetwork...

will get the HD hard-disk recording capability first. Their 920 receiver was voted best of show in catagory at CES. It is a HD-sattelite receiver with 200GB hard drive I believe. Hook this up to a Formac Studio and the quality should be outstanding! Plus, like TiVo or EyeTv you can schedule the receiver to automatically tune-in or tape shows, and with Formac's new software, it can schedule record your shows via the internet. Much better solution than the ad hoc setup of a DV camera. But to get the true HD signal on your mac, you will have to either open up the box and tap into the Hard drive, or get an HD card (expensive) and use the receiver's digital output.

    Uh...

Isn't this illegal or at least in breach of the DMCA?

    I don't care!

s**** the MPAA! I'm extracting stuff from my Tivo. Recordings for personal use is allowed under the law. If they want to get nasty about these things, maybe I'll start posting shows on the net, too.
